The bubble world

Eine fantastische Geschichte über das ganz normale Leben. Geschrieben wurde sie 1999 von Elena Holzheu http://www.doelma.ch.

Once upon a time there was a world made out of bubbles. And the world itself was surrounded by a very large bubble too. A bubble, so large, that if you were standing at one end, you couldn't see the other. In fact, even if you were to walk for more than a thousand years, you could still not see it. That is how large it was and that is also why nobody ever got to prove that it was a bubble world. The only thing we can do is simply believe it was.

Inside the bubble world there was light everywhere and the air was filled with the most beautiful music. So beautiful that if people would hear it, they'd cry happy tears. It would feel like that music was playing inside of you too, turning all the living into instruments and whatever people were saying into happy tunes.

The colors were much brighter too and there were millions and millions of different hues. There were reds that were as red as giant, sweet strawberries and if you'd see them you'd have to take a big bite. The blues felt so fresh that just by looking at them you'd feel like jumping into the cool water on a very hot summer day. The yellows were so warm that you could walk around naked in the middle of winter and still not be cold. And all the other colors were just as strong and it felt like everybody was part of one huge rainbow. It would shine right through you and turn you into beams of light. I think you also had the chance to choose what color you wanted to be and change your mind too if you didn't like it anymore. I always wanted to be blue myself because it reminds me of my home so much. What color would you want to be?

Unfortunately not too many people were able to hear that wonderful music or choose what color they wanted to be. Why? Because there was not only one bubble surrounding all of the world but also a smaller bubbble around each and everyone so that there were as many bubbles as people! Just like in a huge bubble bath. Imagine!

People were captured in their bubbles and just as people are of different size, so were the bubbles. There were baby-bubbles, teenager-bubbles, mom- and dad-bubbles, grandma- and grandpa bubbles and they all looked different. If you were inside such a bubble you could see what was going on outside because the bubble was a see-through-bubble. But that of course wasn't anything like being outside. Imagine looking through a pair of very dirty glasses that blurred everything you saw. Wouldn't that give you a headache!

As you can already imagine, talking to each other through bubbles was not all that fun and it pretty much sounded muffled like when you hold a cup to your mouth and try to talk through it. There was definitely a lot of bubble-talk going on. Children were playing in their bubbles, lovers were trying to kiss through their bubbles but neither were happy because as you and I know, they were all still trapped.

But there were a few exceptions. A few people had managed to pop their bubble. And if it weren't for them, I wouldn't be able to tell you this story today. One of the bubbble popers was a little girl called Elly Electric. Elly Electric had yellow hair, a nose that wasn't perfectly straight and a lot of freckles. She was a funny little person and when she'd tell you a story, it would be hard not to laugh because she always made such funny faces when she was excited about something.

Although Elly Electric usually was very joyful, she'd get very sad at times too. Especially when I'd ask her about the bubbles and the people inside of them, she would look so sad that I'd be worried about her. "You know", she said, "it's so sad to see all these people chosing to stay in their bubble while we all could have so much fun together. Sometimes I feel so lonely and I would wish for nothing more than to be sharing all this joy with them, just like I can with you." - "But why is it that they wouldn't want to come out?", I asked.

"Well", Elly Electric said, "A lot of people aren't aware of living in a bubble. They got so used to that life that they stopped wondering." - "And that is how someone would get trapped?", I asked, "When they stop wondering?" - "Yes. See, when people are little, they always ask questions and are curious to know about everything. But when they grow up, they just don't ask anymore questions. All they care about is to be like everyone else and they begin to repeat after what someone else has already said, just like parrots."

But Elly Electric wouldn't be herself if she could not come up with a solution. So she said to me: "I have to think about this problem for a good while and as soon as I find the solution, I'll let you know." And off she went for a long walk. As she was walking, she had a big frown on her face because all she did was think, for hours on end.

All of a sudden, Elly Electric stopped and said to herself: "If I loved people so much that they would start loving themselves again, they would have faith and where there's faith, there's a way to pop one's bubble... My name is Elly Electric, I have the power to give people love shocks and that's exactly what I am going to do!"
I think it must have been a good while that Elly Electric had been gone for. The sun had gone up and down a couple of times before I heard her voice again...
"It works! It works! Come and see for yourself!", I heard her scream.

And as I went to see what happend, I could not believe my eyes: Elly Electric was kneeling in front of a bubble, loving it with all her heart and as her love surrounded the bubble, the bubble took on rainbow colors and started vibrating as if it had gotten an electric shock. With a big "POPPPPPP!" it popped open.

"I can give people love shocks!", Elly Electric said with a big smile on her face. "If you love someone just enough, it works!"
Believe it or not, this is how a lot of people could free themselves and pop their bubble, simply by being loved. And that is what Elly Electric does until this day: loving people so much, so that they all become bubble poppers eventually until there won't be ONE single bubble left. She is probably out there right now as I am telling you this story, hoping that you won't need a love shock because you know better.
You know, the big bubble around this world won't pop unless we love each other. And just until then, our vision might be a little blurred.

This was the last episode of this wonderful story of Elly Electric.
